Hi, some time ago I talked about buying 100 9V batteries and I was planing on connecting them all together. I didn't do it back then for some reason but now I had some time to kill and stumbled upon those batteries again. Connecting them was very easy.
Here is a picture. It's exactly 100 batteries. The voltage is 960V.
Here's a video of me drawing an arc from that thing. I put a small ceramic plate under the spark gap to avoid accidentally burning something. The peak current is about 600mA if my multimeter is working correctly under these conditions. Also I added a picture of the electrodes after the test. ]1177792596_350_FT24543_arc2.avi[/file]

Man that is awesome. When I was a kid I was in a local Cole's Hardware store and found an open box with individually labeled price tagged 32 volt photo batteries, they were those red evereadies that like sort of like square AA's. I took one and touched it and didn't feel anything, then I took a second one and stacked thhe 2 in series in my hand and still didn't feel anything, so I took a 3rd and lo an behold, I jumped throwing the batteries in the air (keep in mind I was like 7 years old) I got in trouble with the cahshier and my mom was screaming at me why I threw the batteries LOL!!!

Pretty nasty shock to be had if you slipped. Glad you're safe. ^_^
Hope those batteries were cheap.
I got them off ebay. They cost 20Euro. 20 cent for a 9V battery is quite cheap.
I just did another search on ebay. Currently someone is offering 200 9V batteries for 20 Euro. And it's even alkaline batteries. They just exceeded their expiration date. Do you think it makes sense to get them? I guess I don't really need an even more powerfull super battery. Better invest the money into an HV power supply. What do you think?

For some reason I am not very excited about this battery. It sure is a good way to kill someone if that 600mA figure is correct, but judging from the arc you draw I doubt even that. Really no offence, but would it not be so much simpler to buy a motorcycle battery for 20€ and then hook up your favorite HV gizmo?

Geek points for actually doing it!
I wouldn't take it too seriously, though. Invest your money elsewhere.

Have you seen a man eat his own head? No?
And neither have we...
Ok. I'll stop quoting, and get to the point.
I was considering doing this ages ago after acquiring a huge quantity of 9V cells. I didn't get that far, because I used most of them up running a small remote control car off them.
I did shock a friend using 10 of them in series though. Man, that was funny.
Interesting to see a 900V battery done in the end - now all you have to do is power a coilgun off it.
