I'm in search of the old school AC flyback transformers, for some kirilan potography experiments and for some other HV stuff. So if anyone knows where to get some for a reasonable price, I'd be greatful for the information!

Does it _HAVE_ to be an AC flyback?

I've done all my Kirilian photography with 8-12kv AC from an NST and 7kv DC from an ignition coil with similar results.

NSTs are pretty easy to scrounge locally with a phone book and some time. old style AC flybacks are free+ as near as a local TV repair shop. If properly regulated, a MOT is as near as the local dump or garage sale...

have fun with the Kirlians, and dont zap yourself too bad... it happens with kirlians (the insulation will eventually break down, usually when your hand is on the plate). I find 62mil clear duralar works well, and holds up for weeks of constant use. Eventually some dust or a scratch will break through and bite ya tho...

silly hippies think it's some kinda message from the goddess or something I think.

I wanted the AC ones so I I could use then to try some Ideas on rediculously small TC's and some other ideas that require AC, like a Jacobs ladder. I want to avoid NST's because most the good\decent voltage ones are big or weigh at least 5lbs, and I wanna go for small and compact, as for IGGy's Bah everytime I try nad use 1 it frys all the electronics or at least the important parts, and still making close to minimum wage with no benefits and paying for college loans doesn't leave much in the way of free spare change, after you add gas and other essentials. As for the zapping part...I'm aware of the pain... angry especial after having my SSTC shut off hte suddenly start backup on my while changing a breakout point, or holding a really small wire in me hand to use as a Ion engine(having it spin in a circle) and the voltage different burning through the insulation and carbonizing a small hole in my finger. Sorry I got carried away... frown

if weight/size is an issue I'd look for some of the smaller flybacks from old video cameras with CRT viewfinders. Got any decent local junk/surplus stores? You could probably get a busted camera for like $5 or so.

Also, what do you plan to use to photograph your Kirilians? Large film stock isn't cheap.

You're not trying to follow the plans from Make are you? That set up doesn't work well unless you can coat your own conductive plate or have a source for real tinned glass.
