A couple of times I have tried to use a link sent me or I have found to Hv.org
BUT the site rejects my user name
The site is a dark blue not this light blue and I assume it's an old site

Does any one have an explaination

...

what is the exact link they send you?

There are the old.4hv and older.4hv archives which don't let you log in any more...

The URLs changed when the old forums were archived so if the links are very old it could explain it. It is possible to convert an old link to a new one if you know the details.

If possible post the link and a screenshot of any error messages.
