i second that about clocks.. definitely the thinnest wire you can get for no price!
Any quartz pointer - clock will have a pretty big coil of hair-thin wire wich can be easily unwound.

ok, i'll try the clock but so far I'v gotten ~3.5 ft of wire from the trig xfmr and the wire isn't sticky from the wax. I'v been able to wind ~ 25 turns on a small 4x3mm bead.
