IR camera project

I have started to put together a IR camera. It consist of two visible light filters and a BW NTSC camera module. Below are some test pictures. One of them was posted in the cool pics thread.

cool, do you know how far into the IR is can see?

I saw one very cool pic of a pencil type soldering iron with about 2/3 of the iron surrounded with an erie purple glow...
