SCRs are slow, and you won't find a hydrogen thyratron large enough and cheap enough to handle that sort of current and voltage. You are far better off with a spark gap. I like mechanically triggered ones; the ones that bring one electrode to within a short distance of the other to fire.

Yup, SCRs are way too slow. I have got a huge puk lying around unused, because I just wont be able to slowly ramp up to 50kA in 1ms. Thyratrons are scarce and expensive. I see absolutely nothing wrong with a simple triggered spark gap, and I dont understand why so many people object to using them (funny, it's only the people who are not playing around themselfs with the stuff - the experienced seem to like spark gaps).
I am now considering to construct an enclosure from some 16mm acrylic. Something like 5 pieces stapled on to of another, the inner 3 drilled out so I can fit the electrodes in, the outer two threaded for screw connections, and the whole block bolted together with a couple of M6 bolts. I just fear that the wohle thing would explode on the first shot.
