you could look on ebay. the red one with the 20A circuit breaker is cheap. Oh wait 220-250V I don't know but still check ebay.(varaics are expensive) Or you could go to a junk yard and get some medical equipment. They might have some 20A varaics.

You guys really ought to fill in your locations so you know where you are. Or mention where you are when buying and selling stuff. I think I figured out download is in Australia, so the shipping on "the red one with the circuit breaker" would kill him three times over.

My last two variacs were a 240V 10A for free, and a tiny 240V 2A one that I bought new for $80. Not the cheapest thing in the world but it was cute smile

I have what is probably the only "cheap" 20A monster 5kW variac in Australia. I live in Sydney, and I could be coerced to part with it.

There's ONE good Variac on eBay, but it's "local pickup only"... I can actually post mine to you. =)
The other 20A Variacs on eBay sell for AU$510... the good ones aren't cheap.

Where do you live?

For AU$249 plus shipping, you will have for yourself my fine 20A variac. And I will have some uni textbooks. =P

Matt

Okies... I wish you luck finding one on eBay. They do pop up every now and then, so keep your eye out :)

Try flea markets... check discarded hospital equipment etc, too... but I don't think we get HAMfests in Australia :P

I've no use for a pole pig, but my Variac is very special to me...

We have shared an... intimate... relationship, for some years now. wink
