Police were called out to investigate the suspicious-looking devices and road traffic and rail service was disrupted.

One man has been arrested suspected of placing a hoax device.

Turner Broadcasting System has apologised, saying "the 'packages' in question are magnetic lights that pose no danger".

Read about it here:

Should make for interesting discussion... are wasteful "LED throwies" potential for a five year jail sentence? Could authorities ruin the creator of a tutorial/site promoting them?

These "signs" have been up in 6 or 7 other cities across the US for some time, without complaint. This is a ridiculous exercise.

Of course it is ridiculous. Although nowadays people can't be sure, so if someone acts strangly and causes mass panic he can be charged. Whats the big deal? You can even get charged because you are riding on cow to work in the middle of the city.

Although I agree, that the charge is in no relation to the "crime". But being charged doesn't mean anything until your are sentenced. A kid around here has been charged with thousands of hours of social work, because he made a hoax call to the police stating his going to kill people in his school, only to get a school free day. The whole thing caused a 1,5 million Euro assignment (police, ambulances, which could not be used in real emergencys)

Their press conference is ridiculous. All they wanted to talk about was "haircuts of the 70's" check it out here
