Hi all, instead of buying a cheap CRT TV which would for sure have many picture problems, I was thinking of buying a cheap 19" PC monitor with much better picture than a TV for the same price (or maybe even getting a second-hand monitor), then buying a DVB-T receiver with VGA out, to which I would plug the monitor and use it as a regular TV. Do you think this is a good idea?

I used to watch TV on a monitor and there are two possible problems. One is that the gamme curve is different so the picture may become very dark and murky in the darker areas. Movement may be jerky because of difference in framerate. Also a TV is often brighter than a monitor.
The end result depends on the hardware and software and how it is configured.

I think the ways the picture is generated on a TV and monitor are very, _very_ different. Even with a clever algorithm that translates from one format to the other, the hardware differences are just so great that the outcome is doubtful.

If you need the monitor connected to a computer, then a computer monitor is a good idea. But for just watching tv, I would recommend a good old CRT.
Also, by the time you buy a dvb-t rx and the monitor, I think you could have got a much larger crt...
But in general, I find that tv looks pretty good on a lcd monitor. Although, keep in mind that crt tv's hide a lot of detail, while computer monitors don't, so every little bit of static shows up when watching on a computer monitor.
