I found some interesting coil assemblies at work recently. They are left over parts from a watt-hour meter manufacturing process that we no longer operate. (Photos provided)
I connected the dual winding thingie to my 3055 driver in place of the flyback and it oscillated verry nicely near 60 hz. The laminations got tosty warm after about 10 min. (eddy current) Did manage to scope the base and observed a nice clean pulse near 35v pp. When a screw driver is placed in the gap the pulse rate goes down slightly. Supply is 12vdc current unknown.
Will connect an ignition coil in series with the main winding when I can find a good one. Lots of unanswered questions but will be fun learning.
Thanks Wendell
