Im beginning a search for tubes, but while waiting for one to appear on ebay, Im looking for other places to look- Ill keep an eye out in the newspaper in the classifieds for radio stuff, but anyone have other ideas on where to look or ask?

Amateur Radio hamfests. You can usually find one or two a year in most major metropolitan areas, and a couple more in outlying areas. Basically they're just big flea markets for ham radio operators, and hams are just about the most specialized and experienced group when it comes to tubes. You can always find atleast one table at a hamfest loaded with old tubes, from tiny little 12AX7s to monster 4cx1500s.
