What to do with 100 9V batteries?

Will a normal switch work savely for 900V?
Also how long can you draw an arc with 900V and lets say 200mA short circuit current?

I fear it won't under load.
You would need some kind of special switch capable of quenching the arc, maybe under oil.

I think unplugginng all bateries together is safest and simplest way to go.

Has anyone ever heard of the internal resistance of each battery becoming significant in a string like this? It seems that there might be a problem with that last battery in the chain being connected to Vtot - 9V. Wouldn't this be too much power to expect one battery to handle? Current limiting might be the answer.

Sure, internal resistances will add up but voltage will as well.

Maximum current of the string is supposed to be equal maximum current of one battery. (and effects will be pretty same).

Im not sure about the internal constructions of your batteries, but the insulations might not be able to stand 900V.

Most 9v batteries (that i have opened) are made of 6 individual cells of 1.5v each and the most voltage any 1 battery will see is 9v so insulation wont be a problem (internaly)

Yeah, none of batteries will see more than it's own voltage. Problem with seriesed transformers is existence of primary, in proximity to core, wich high voltage can arc to.

What I was trying to say is most 9V batteries have a metal can housing, and it's usually floating/insulated from both terminals, and that insulation might see higher voltage depending on the construction of the bank.
