There are published studies done on the behaviours related to the microscopic defects in the ceramic. Currently people are trying to synthesize artificial structures that will make the superconductors better. The surface flow modeling at these scales is absolutely brilliant and may yield better results than the accelerators they were intended to support.
To answer your question, yes people do have well founded models that hold for superconductors. However, there are still some exciting things on the horizon.

You can only float a magnet above graphite if you have a bigass magnet above the assembly to provide 90% of the lift, the graphite just sorta stabilizes it.

I keep my word. I bought the kit and got some liquid nitrogen from one of the hospital research labs. In this video I am showing this to my 7 year old and her two friends. They loved it.
