within the last 2 Days i made a few Spice simulations based on the Andrineri Flyback driver. i want to use it on a sstc or a induction heater, so i tried some things out and came up with a really nice circuit running on mains. the simulations are done and tommorow i´ll start to build the circuit. its mainly the basic ZVS circuit everybody here knows but with a few changes. and the best thing, you dont need expensive high voltage mosfets, the drain voltage is in the range of 100 to 200 volts with a input voltage of 300v dc . the circuit starts to oscillate without any problems and all measured currents and voltages are within the range. the frequency is adjustable via the parallel capacitor in a range from 30 to 300khz without any complications so its usable for a UBER simple high power sstc with something around 600watts which is in a doable range of the circuit. this circuit doesnt need a extra voltage source for the mosfet gates. who cares about 10watts of power waste in the only 2 high power resistors on the board.wait until tommorow, then i can post my test results and hopefully a working version of the simulated circuit wink

Youppiii! You did it. The italian team (Vladi and all) is still searching the idea to adapt it for mains. I want to see it too.

This sounds very interesting! Exactly the type of circuit I am looking for. Can't wait for the schematic cheesey

okay, first test tonight was successful but not what i expected. i need more time for more simulations and tests. but so far it starts oscillating and nothing exploded wink

OK, any more info on this except 'first light was sucessful and nothing blew up?'

Using 100 volt devices with 320V supply... wtf? suprised

Guessing it's a halfbridge or etc. switches are still going to see at least supply voltage.
Any switching system must be as such, unless it's a lightbulb in series, reactively limited current?

no, the mosfets are sharing the voltage via a capacitive /inductive divider. but its hopeless, it does not work like it should. the simulations showed that it should work but in practice its totally different,. dont know.

i made a few other simulations with a inductive ballast like in the original zvs circuit, but the voltage on the mosfet drain goes up to 800volts, so its hopeless.

the only way to go is to capacitive divide the supply voltage but then the maximum output power is less than 100watts.

I think you should post the circuit too. It'll be a very good challenge for the board members to try and figure out why the simulated circuit works but the real one doesn't.

BTW, did you know about the BUP314, a 1200V TO-247 IGBT from Siemens? You can make a ZVS running off 230V with them, and last I looked they were fairly cheap and available in Europe. I think Vasil once got hold of some in Romania and made DRSSTCs with them.

In fact, the original project that made the ZVS popular was an air-cored SSTC running off 220V mains using these devices in the ZVS circuit, built by the Italian coiler Vladimiro Mazzilli, which is why we called it the Mazzilli driver for a while.

The BUP314D with built-in diode may be more convenient.

Sure, 1200V IGBT's are pretty and solve the problem directly, but unpractical for small things like small flyback drivers or SMPS's as they are hard to acquire (at least here, as I only have a very limited supply from bosnian RS.)
