I have a spark gap that fires intermittently at 40kV at a variety of frequencies between 1-100Hz. The spark gap is connected to a standard pole transformer as a means of stepping the 40kV pulses down in voltage. The pole transformer outputs low voltage pulses that are rectified using a full-wave bridge rectifier that charges up a low voltage capacitor bank. My question focuses on how to a) filter out unwanted HV transients before they have the opportunity to damage the pole transformer, and b) widening the HV pulse duration so it's better suited for the design of the pole transformer. I invite helpful suggestions. Thanks in advance.
