I know it's been awhile but is there anyone still selling this potted AC flyback or anything equivalent to it? Link2

Hi Dragonfly, this and other Chinese ebay sellers are offering an AC flyback complete with driver electronics all ready to go and cheaper than you could make it yourself. Link2

I bought a similar but more powerful flyback with driver assembly from China and was not disappointed, tho' I guess it would conk out if I kept drawing arcs from it.

Hi Mary, thanks for the quick reply.

I have looked at those Chinese flybacks but it seemed like they were DST flybacks with pulsed DC output.

Are there are major downsides of running a CW multiplier using pulsed DC versus AC? I wanted to resurrect my old multiplier without having the use my messy oil soaked pancake flyback transformer.

I believe the fix may be to drive a resistive divider.

It's a long time since I last saw a 1950s style 'AC flyback' for sale on ebay. 99 out of a 100 are diode split types.

How about using a gas boiler type HV transformer, like the one for sale here: Link2

Yes this works.
Watch out though, HVAC @ 50 Hz is even more dangerous than regular HV.
I managed to modify mine so that it works continuously but this is a bad idea unless you keep everything very well insulated, cooled and use the "one Hand rule" with an ELCB or GFCI so if there is any leakage it shuts down. Ideally also a "Run" button.
