Afternoon all, Ok so i only had time last night to run a test on my SSTC based off Steve's mini coil design using an arduino as the interrupter. I had reconstructed my pcb board trying to make a more neat set up. However when powered up the output was extremely weak. I hooked up my hantek 6022 oscilloscope to the output of the GDT with my main power to the mosfets off and the signal was not square at all it looked almost like a sine wave. Would the GDT cause this or bad wiring around the driver chips? I plan on checking the output wave form of the chips when i get home but of course thought about this while at work and wondered if anyone else experienced this before.

i got it out of a 1800w power inverter
Was that core part of the output filter? From the datasheet i see that the Al value is to low and the core looses for 200kHz (is this close your reaonant frequency?) is to high for GDT use
Granted i used something similar but with slightly higher Al value om my first coil and got some results but the power was low and the mosfets survived

I've ordered the similar toroid that Steve recommended in his sstc 1 half bridge from goldmine electronics seeming how the part numbers are different but the dimensions are the same hoping that they are of the same material he recommended. I'll update once I can test them. Going to be moving soon finally getting a house and a nice shop to irritate the neighbors and hopefully not my wife with these experiments lol.

To inctease inductance you can increase the number of turns the core section and/or the Al value of the core. But if the core is designed with a diatri uted air gap for filter usage is not suitable for GDT

Increasing turns does increase inductance, L=n^2*AL, so double no turns is four times inductance. You really need the correct type of material to not have bad losses and to get the right gate waveforms. If you don't understand the data sheets its best to copy what others have shown to work. Some cores are designed for power transfer(what you want), others for filtering(lossy).

Ah got ya, OK so I got the different core with 2200ui Have not had a chance to run tests been working on my house ugh life priorities haha. What you think about this one, it's the n87. And I want to understand what I'm looking at I think I am finally getting more understanding of it so did I make a good choice for the GDT or could I have made a better choice
