now, I 've tried to find HFBR-2412(which is what most of y'all use) for cheap quite a while now,
sadly i've failed

but, i've found thesehttps://www.ebay.com/itm/1x-HP-HFBR-2416TC-HFBR2416TC-Fiber-Optic-Transmitters-Receivers-Transceive/181821930653?epid=1929997036&hash=item2a556e7c9d:g:52YAAOSwLVZVvxh2
on eBay they're fairly cheap
Now, the question is will they work??

I had the same problem as you - price
I fond this on eBAY:
Link2
which required a few additional parts because the output wasn't moving that much

1517741502 42796 FT181398 Opto

or maybe that was because of my red LED fiber optic emitter...

The one you found can also work.
What i advise is to test it in advance to see it it can drive a logic gate. If the output is to low use the circuit above

I don't think I'll be able to test
My parents won't let me buy it if I'm not 100% sure it works
So well ill

is not that it wouldn't work... is all about if it requires a few extra parts or not

I don't know what electronic component distributors you can order from, but Industrial Fiberoptics sells cheaper transmitters / receivers that use 1000um core plastic fiber. They are the cheapest transmitters / receivers you can get on digikey.

Loneocean's revision of the UD 2.7 driver board uses them as an option to replace the more expensive OPF-2412T or HFBR-2412T ST style receivers.

If you can order off digikey this is the pair you want:

Does the cheapness of these receivers make any difference performance wise??
Also, shipping to India is horrendously expensive!!! cry
Could you please direct me to any other source for these receivers and transmitters??

performance is not an issue for the interrupter of the universal driver. farnell electronics is closer to you in Europe. you could also use a fiber optic digital audio cable from junk like a busted tuner. another option is to use a well grounded peace of coax and make a direct connection. what do you have available where you live.

Here's an idea: get a red laser diode module and modulate that, and use a phototransistor to pick up the signal. Forget fiber optics, go free space! It will have to be aimed carefully, of course. I found the following on Amazon India:

Modulated Laser Diode

Photosensor

You might be able to adapt these for the interrupter signal. Go wireless!

Or if it doesn't work - couple the diode/sensor through a piece of fibre!

If you do need to go for the TX/RX modules (and yes, we all complain about the cost, even in places where they're easier to get), then you may find that sellers on ebay/aliexpress offer cheap/free shipping worldwide.
