Hi all.
As mentioned I have safely disposed of many of my chemicals that are no longer legal due to EU law change on 01 Jan 2018.
Seems that YBCO unfortunately is one of them so now need to find a safer alternative.
Does anyone know if BSCCO (Bismuth strontium calcium copper oxide) will be good enough for most projects?
One configuration has quite a high Tc (109+K) so ideal for tinkering around with as its about as hazardous as any strong oxidizer.
In fact less so even than ampersulf and it won't do anything nasty even if heated up.
EDIT 3: I actually did some calculations suggesting that Cu foil from batteries if suitably cleaned can be upcycled into HTSCs as long as it is suitably thin due to the (small) F+ content.
Interesting to use it for etching glass with a laser though and if you are careful this is way safer than ammonium bifluoride.
Anyone ever done anything with this?
Obvously I want to be careful now, could have been a lot worse and from the sound of it very expensive.
EDIT 2: may yet be, they haven't sent the bill yet.
EDIT: apparently CuO is fine but it got taken away anyway because they were concerned about it being used for other things.
