I have a Tektronix 11801 sampling oscilloscope, which does not start after switching on because of problems with built in batteries. Please, are there experiences with such problems within this forum?
If I get error messages like this: E5622, should I change the NVRAMs against new ones?
Please these are my questions:
1. Is somebody here who has opened already an oscillocope like the Tek 11801C?
2. Is somebody here who has changed already the two Dallas NVRAMs against new ones?
3. And please, could I get pictures of these NVRAMs?
The service manual of the Tek 11801C unfortunately gives only this information:
4. Does somebody have more information about these special ICs?

Okay, so your real time clock died (RTC).
He's responsible for keeping the date/time alive for the CPU, and they are available from Dallas Maxim.
My Tekmate uses an ATtiny motherboard and it would not boot properly even with the 720kB formatted diskettes (which are impossible to come by with the DSOAPP.exe OS). And so I found out that there is a real time clock in this guy that keeps the NV ram alive and needed replacing.
They last about 10 years and then the battery dies. So the chip is fine, but it's power source is done.
You have a couple of options:
1. Gut the old RTC and solder in a new battery (many people do this) 2. Get a new RTC, some are $25 and others are much more pricey at $65 each! but the price is worth not having to hassle with it.

You simply need to replace the NVRAMs. I repaired a CSA803 (essentially the same instrument) in this way. Just make sure that you are getting 'fresh' ones, they only have a 10 year life from the date of manufacture so 'new old stock' units are likely dead by now. The instrument will self calibrate after the replacement units are installed.

I always wondered how they got around things like NVRAM having a limited life. Aren't the batteries in these basically the same as pacemaker ones (ie lithium iodine) ?

Hi Hazmatt_(The Underdog), Conundrum and ...
Thank you for your comments regarding the error messages E5622 and E5322:
With the help of these two papers:
"Fixing a 50GHz Sampling Scope (Tektronix CSA803), posted by February 26, 2014 by xellers."
and
"Tek 11801 Timebase Errors by John Larkin, Highland Technology Inc, **link** 11801 and CSA803_TB_error 5622 repair " had a friend of mine (professional electronics engineer) and me after 3 hours work success with a Tek 11801A:
