Hi
Well...one of my friends bought a car, it is a CITROEN BERLINGO HDI-2000, Diesel, 2002 model, second hand and he has a problem. After approx 1 hour driving, a little yellow/orange signal led lits up on the board and the engine can not go upper than 3000 RPM. He has to stop the engine and let it cool down a bit. He tryed many car services, but they are really dissapointing here. No one knows the signification of the signal (does exist something like "lambda sensor"?) and the problem is unresolved until today. The technical book is in german.
I put some pics with the painass signaling led (the yellow one in the picture) and the text from the tech book.
Did some of you drive such a car and give some advice? Can someone translate the text (the online translators do nothing). Are there some specialised sites or forums?

Translation: Motor check light (self-diagnosis) If this light blinks or stays on, there exists a fault with the injection system, ignition or emission system (according to country).
Go immediately to the nearest dealer repair shop.!!!
Sounds serious.....
Since it is a diesel, I would check the fuel system... Clogged fuel filters can give the symptoms you described. Also, if there is a catalytic converter, it could be clogged... Does the motor overheat?

Lambda sensor = oygen sensor (it is bolted in the exaust pipe to measure the fuel/air mixture)
My guess is that your O2 sensor is failing, so once it heats up the engine goes into 'limp home' mode where it doesn't read any of the sensors and limits performance.

Usually there is a diagnostic port that can telly ou what it wrong, with the right interface. On my old car if you shorted out two of the pins the "check engine" light would flash in a sequence indicating what the problem was.
This site is an example of what 'm talking about, but I think OBD II is a US thing.

We had a car in witch the oxygen sensor would get clogged, the "quick fix" we were given was to rev the engine and bash the sensor with the handle of a hammer. Now Im not going to tell you to hit it with a hammer but if nothing else works it could be an option.
