The Telegraph is pretty right wing; they don't publish stuff like this out of sympathy with the environmentalists. Cod stocks round the UK are already an endangered species. They were plentifull just after WWII and the timescale is roughly comparable. We now have better technology to fish with too.

The amount of cod catched in the North sea is just 25% of what it was 15 years ago. If you factor in the increased efficiency of the boats something like 90% of the cod has disapeared in 15 years. It can only be described as a complete collapse of the stock.

Hey BC, Did you like the BBC coverage of rising temperatures and changing PH ::) The seas will be well stocked with red-herring for many years to come. =D
Educated people know why equilibrium population estimates are so important. Too bad only 1/100 people worldwide are educated to this level – and too bad for the fish,

Interesting thought. Is the meat grown in a dish vegetarian? I guess not because the original stock was from some poor animal. OK, what if the original tissue that was cultured up was muscle tisue from a biopsy from a human? (With their consent of course) You might end up with the only truly ethical meat being canibalism. Anyway, I suspect that it's rather an expensive way of getting a steak- perhaps something for the future.

That wasn't the original article I read. Anyhow the speculation is that it will be cheaper than traditional meat, with less wasted energy(and for you bleeding heart vegans, animal pain).
What would be unethical about using meat grown from an animal sample?

The use of an animal which did not consent to that use is the problem.
BTW, I'm not saying the environmentalists always get it right.

Nobody seems to have told them that a well built fire is carbon neutral; produces less greenhouse gases than composting and produces a valuable fretiliser.
