I have one of these, in my PRS600 reader.
Has anyone ever tried to drive such a display? It might be a relatively simple method of making a server status display etc that uses little to no power when not updating, also digital picture frames with backlighting. see
The plan here is to get the strange voltages it needs by simply using a pair of MC34063s and drive the logic directly from Pi Zero address lines.

Thanks for that last link - it went straight into my bookmarks! I have often thought an e-ink display would be ideal for a chartplotter on my kayak, as its so easy to read in full sunlight. Never went any further with the idea as I could never find the drive info, and the dev kits are horribly expensive.

Glad I could help. Hopefully my PCB design will actually qualify as a Pi add-on (PiHat) as it has more than one use including driving LED strings etc. Those HV850s are also brilliant for driving the Philips LED "strips" that need 28V at 30mA, for monster 7 segment displays. however please be aware that they need external current limiting and series diodes. I found that a 10nF suitably rated capacitor on each output seems to work fine, and using a decent high speed diode with at least a 300V Vr solves the intermittent problems with oscillator stopping etc. Also connect a 330K output resistor between the 10nF capacitor ends to limit the output voltage.
I have a spare PRS600 which will likely not get used apart from testing panels, as the screen is fused to a metal plate. Let me know if you'd like it for parts when the screens are set up and working, might even throw in a test PCB.
