android app development

I developed some years ago an app for the android platform using Eclipse. Is this still the best platform? I see there is an Android studio kit available from developer.android.com

Is this better? I'm hoping there are some developers here that can point me in the right direction.

for C++ native apps, vs2015(including the free version) integrates the NDK, and can build/debug apps
