completed the minibrute tonight, it did fire right up I have some tuning to do from straying from the plans but seeing I would guess near 34" arcs from it.
I do have a question though at one point a couple turns on the secondary seemed to short it is only a few up from the bottom. There was a bright spot there and now a small burn spot. The coil continues to work fine and it no longer glows bright. I am guessing I should just spool off the bottom few turns but wanted to ask what might cause this. It happened during some one shot pulses, and almost looked like a streamer came back into it. I am using a dryer vent top load and think even though I had a break point there was a rough or loose tape edge that a secondary streamer came out of.
Looking forward to getting started on my next build.

I actually wound a slightly longer coil when I made mine, but also lifted the torroid a little higher from the top of the coil. I still got arcs to the strike ring, but not down the secondary.
Sounds like the turns never burned out if it's still working, so probably ok. Could try adding some layers of poly to the coil to further seal it.
