In case any of you were vacillating on whether or not to see The Prestige, its a good, dark, movie and suprisingly Nikola Tesla is a major character. I think he was poorly cast in the film, but I'm sure some of you Teslaphiles would get a kick out of it, and of course the (cgi?) sparks.

I checked it out on imdb, David Bowie playing Tesla, wtf cheesey

Anyone seen 'Tajna Nikole Tesle'? This is an awesome film from the 80's, based on the war of the currents. It's accurate as well and very well made, I've watched it a few times now I'd totally recommend it.

That's our production film.
There are also miniseries about Nikola Tesla, from about same time. Not proud of special effects cheesey but also a good watch.

Tesla looks a bit wrong in that 'prestige' thing (at least from glance), and from what I know story is a bit wierd for my opinion.

About CGI sparks, no, I really doubt they'l be close to realistic.
Even in newest movies CGI sparks look crappy and behave unnaturally, that's one part of CGI I never seen to get out right yet!

Some movies, though, use real sparks (nikola tesla serial uses real magnifiers and TC's), including terminator and etc.

To you as a HV enthusiast they look wrong but I bet to most people they behave just as would be expected. If the movies were marketed to electrical engineers the CGI would be different.

I'm sure most of us would have seen computer games with devices that shoot sparks at things. mistrust
