Hi All, Just got my big tesla coil going. Thought you might like to see some video and a picture of a 12' strike. Pretty cool stuff. Here is a link to the youtube video.....

Vicious looking coil, are you using a break out point? If you already are, use a longer to avoid all those strikes to the ground rail at the primary coil.
I edited your link to be a embedded youtube video instead :)
Hi, I guess I will answer two questions here. The power is provided by 240v to a 85 amp variac....then thru the ballast of 6.35mh to a 14,400v pole transformer which is 10kva.....then out to a rotary spark gap which I built. A copy of ed wingates design.
The toroid has a 2.5" screw sticking out of the side which acts as a breakout point. Sounds like it needs to be longer?
I also have two more videos that were recently uploaded that go into greater detail of the construction.
Building this coil was really easy once I put my mind to it. I never figured it would look this good. Even surprises me!
Hi Graham, I am fortunate that my neighbors are right next door to my lot, however, they are 1000' from the barn. I live almost 1/4 mile of the road and they are close to the road. Barb and I have it very private here with woods all around.
53KHZ .14UF 14,400v pri 83 amp variac running on ~50 amp. Rotary spark gap a copy of ed wingates design. 6.15mh ballasting by two paralleled Lincoln welders on the primary side 56" dia toroid 14.25 minor dia. 12.75 dia sec with #18 asynchronous rotary spark gap with 6 contacts @ 5000 rpm
13' strike so far this rig even impresses me!
Bud
edit:I always forget about the cap.......14uf @ 40,000v
