I have been using a hair dryer that has a cool setting to blow air through a gap made of drawer knobs. Just got paid so I would like to find a more permanent replacement. The hairdryer was working really well, so I was thinking something stronger than a muffin fan would be good.

Thanks,
Chris

Delta makes some really scary server fans, 250+ CFM

One of those would probably be better than the hairdryer.

These look pretty awesome: Link2 Fast forward to the end. But they are only 80CFM. You said they make 250CFM fans? That would be insane looking at the 80CFM.

I'm sure you can find them on eBay for much less than mouser or digikey.

I don't know how much this will help, but when I was in the TC phase (90's), I found that quenching was more much important than I thought. 1st I used these fan types. Then I found a leaf-blower on ebay, insanely cheap for some defect that I didn't need anyway--I made an extension and with resin, made a narrow air exit--a great improvement. Finally, before moving to rotary gaps, I found some of those fan modules (120VAC)--built for the suction driving the "money tube" at the drive-in of banks. 1st: NEVER plug it in with no 'load'--I did this and the thing would have ripped itself to threads in seconds if it had not ripped itself from the 120VAC drive! I tried another one, with more caution, thinking that one was defective...same act! I found that these fans were fine, you just can't run them without a 'suction' (closed airway circuit) load. I rigged something up that was somewhat an 'air circuit' with the spark gap inside--worked better than anything I tried before the rotary gap. How far do you plan to go with your TC? I went to a 10kVA pig.

CFMs are not so important due to the small volume of gap itself. Smaller but faster blower may be more efficient. Even smaller turbo blower, put almost in the gap wil be even more efficient.
So, your hair dryer might be the best solution already.
Instead of changing blower I better try 2-gap

I was thinking about that. I'm not sure how efficient some sort of funnel would be at bringing the air to a small opening. The hairdryer just makes the set up look really kludgy.
