For sure. This circuit actually suits my needs perfectly as I have one 12v transformer and mains reticfier. Great. What kind of kV does it give? wink

As for dumpster diving, I have an ancient looking cassette player going for 5 bucks. Link2 Will there be many good parts in it? smile

EDIT: @jmartis, how many watts should R6 and 7 be rated for?

The only hard to get part is the IC. You should be able to buy the other parts in any bigger electronics shop (also the IC if you are lucky). The big 330u/200v caps can be get from an old PC PSU (use anything from 100-680uF). R6 and R7 are standard 1/4watt resistors. The 1u/200 caps are not necessary but can give slightly better output. Also be sure to use the current limiting resistor (4R7/5W) or your switch contacts can weld together. Ooh and now I also see i forgot to draw a fuse in the schematic!

This circuit can generate about 30-40V/turn in the flyback's secondary when tuned properly, I once killed small 8kV AC flyback (that was used with multiplier) and it did output around 30kV when it arced over. I also got about 6cm sparks from new DC flyback. When you are not in tune the output voltage is not so high, but the arcs are white-hot and fiery.

The cassette player should have a small mains tranny, a motor or two, some recording heads, speakers and general bits and pieces. Worth gutting.

To make a 50V power supply from the parts you have, I'd might try identical transformers together back to back to make a isolation transformer and then using a buck converter or chopper to drop the voltage.
