I am making some HV rolled caps with aluminum tape and 3m projection sheets and plan on using a low vacuum and some sort of potting compound (not oil). I was wondering if this or something like this would be a good choice for some added insulation and corona suppression. Is there anything else anyone has used similar to this with success? Im only looking to opperate these at or below 8-6Kv but i dont need the epexy to be able to withstand that much, just looking for the added insulation.

I would consider a silicone potting compound, something like this
since there are three different materials; dielectric, plates and potting compound a flexible compound would withstand differential thermal expansion better than a rigid epoxy .... I think
also, the lower viscosity of the silicone compound may allow bubbles of air to escape easier.

What is the cap capacitance ??
not sure why this is important, does it effect the dialectic strength? At the moment i cannot recall, ill post it when i can measure it again.

this is all guesswork, I have not tried it.
Thanks, its currently unavailable though, but i will look for something like it. I dont think thermal expansion is going to be an issue its quite large and with the amount it will take to fill it it should be very solid.
Edit: Pics are to large to upload apparently, im not sure how to fix that or upload them somewhere else

You can use MS Paint (or other graphics software) to reduce the size and save in JPG format.
Use 'image', 'resize' and 'file', 'save as'.
EDIT: BTW, I picked up some 'dielectric grease' to suppress corona in these, but I've not got round to rolling mine yet. Just waiting until the kitchen table is clear/free.

whatever you use do a test run first as some of these two part compounds can heat up quite a bit
Thanks i will do that

Wow, that stuff has a crazy Kv/mm rating. Might have to get some of that.
