Just a really off the wall probably demented idea but..
Could my idea circa 1998 (published!) be used to cool some of the newer materials enough to demonstrate superconductivity without the need for LN2?
Essentially coat a thin sapphire disk first with improved YBCO, then a buffer and top that with a layer of ZnS:MnCu which would when irradiated with a tuned laser cools down to below the YBCO critical temperature (Tc)
