Hi guys! I recently moved to the US. Where do you buy the components as transistors, resistors, capacitors and other things? I went to the "radio shack" where 555 is worth about $ 1.5 - this is madness. I can understand that you can buy it in China. But most of all I'm interested in where you take the copper wire for the coils Tesla?

What do you need? I am happy to send a "goodie box" with a nice selection of parts, PM me with your address. Have some really thin HV capable wire too ideal for small secondaries..
Digikey, Mouser, eBay. That's all we have really, all local businesses for electronics have closed their doors by now. Even radioshack is gone, but it was a joke for the last 15 years or so.
Copper tubing for SGTC/DRSSTC primaries can be had from Home Depot, Lowes, and the like (home improvement stores).

Interesting fact about Radioshack's demise, if you find a store being shuttered many are selling their entire parts bins in an effort to clear out.. I don't mean only the components, but the bins themselves too! A makerspace guy here bought an entire store's bins with parts (4 cabinets worth plus some shelves worth) in them for $400 (that includes microcontroller stuff as well).
Anyways, depending on where you live there may be a local option, but online is usually the way to go as people have said. Here in the DFW area there is a great shop called Tanner Electronics that carries about anything you could need, and stores similar to it exist in a few places. You just have to look around. IF there is a maker/hackerspace near you, maybe ask them of any local vendors that are any good.
