G'day,
So ive been toying with ignition coils lately, some big MSD coils and similar units.
On eBay i saw a guy put up a "Aircraft High Voltage Current Ignition Coil"
I was intrgied so i asked him a few questions he didnt know the anwser for then he said if i win the auction he had a spare he could throw in for free. So i put a bid on and low and behold i won the auction for $25.
Now i got the 2x Aircraft ignition coils today, here are some photos:
The name plate on the older looking one reads "10 - 30VDC" and "4.5A MAX"
I fed the older one 12VDC onto the input terminal and ground to the chassis, then connected some spark lead cable the the output coming back within a spark gap distance of the chassis or ground.
It whined like it was charging up then let off a high energy discharge that suprised me, it was very similar to a marx generator with a slow firing rate.
tried firing up the other newer unit and it wont fire, it sounds like a motor is spinning inside the unit? This is definitely a old unit, probably off a old turbine engine or similar.
Has anyone come across one of these before? let alone know about how to fix them?
Cheers! Mitch.
