Many of those are self-rectifying. Tube terminals go directly to opposite HV secondary windings, sometimes with a resistor in series at cathode end to generate "grid" bias voltage for current regulation.
So the AC connection results in high voltage DC current, measurable through the "mA" terminal. To counter the resulting DC magnetic bias in transformer core, they put a parallel diode-resistor network in series with the primary. Hope that helps.
