I'm looking to get (new or used) a good video camera for recording video. My daughter is interested in making videos right now. Does anyone have some good recommendations? I've seen a few Sony cameras. I have been reading about this one

My Nikon 3200 does pretty decent videos. And if she changers her interest to photography, a dSLR is a good tool. Having the possibility of changes lenses is a nice feature for both photo and video! I think the entry level is now the 3300 or something like that. I would check one of these.

As with 'still' cameras, if you get serious it's the lenses that consume the most cash,
most 'Indie' film makers use the video function of digital 35mm slr cameras
my son does commercial video and teaches apprenticeships in video and he almost exclusively uses 35mm cameras and lenses with gyroscopic IS seem worthwhile.

For what most people think about as video use a video camera, for cinematography use a dSLR or a mirrorless system camera. Two different things for different purposes.
Panasonic Lumix GH4 and the previous model is as good or better than anything when it comes to video quality. But system cameras are trickier to use than video cameras.
Also remember that the person behind the camera is everything, video made by a skilled person with a Sony RX100 pocket camera will beat anything a random peron can do with a $100 000 camera. That means that a camera the person feels most comfortable with will get better results than any other camera. So that is your main worry, not specifications.

In my experience, after the lens, lighting is the most important thing. I generally use a couple of halogen floodlights reflected off white walls for indoor work.
I've got good results using a digital still camera in video mode, but you do need an external microphone or two.
