Hey everyone.

I have been looking around for this kind of Transmitter / Reciever
Link2

does anywhere know where i can get the Cable, Transmitter and Reciever fairly cheaply?
This is because the chapest of that type on farnell is around £12 Each... far too much for me.

Thanks in advance,
Thomas

Sorry, got no specific pointers.

If this is for full-bridge gate isolation, why not skip the fiber and use an optoisolator chip?
They even have optoisolated gate driver IC's.

If you need the fiber, are you flexible as to the connector type? There are various popular standards; your picture looks similar to HFBR-2521. Beware that there's a wide range of speeds, and some (incl most Toslink, IIRC) don't handle DC.

Ah yeh, thanks for that! and i do intend to use opto-isolator chips. however i always thought fibres looked nicer and all that ;)

careful in "cheap optoelectronics" depending on your purpose, opto electronics can be very cost sensitive. with low cost garbage not capable of anything.

Thanks for that information. What do other people use in general?
i may need to buy some of the more expensive stuff too as i have some controllers for big 1700V 800A IGBTs which use two R-2521Z and one T-1521Z
not sure how much their partners cost but i will be searching out where to buy them and cables for them ( i really wouldn't mind giving those igbts a go )

Unless there are some budget fibres that will do fine for drivers and is fairly cheap (under £12 for R, T and cable) i will likely end up using opto-isolator chips instead with a custom transformer wound.

Thanks,
TCW
