Over the past couple of years, a new and promising toy has been developed, and has gained a lot of promise, and gained a lot of followers: The Drones.
I am thinking about the 3-8 (could be 12... wink ) motor helicopter things that everybody are raving abouy, equipped with a camera, and steered around by an operator who is effectively looking out that camera trough his LCD goggles.
Depending on your position and inclination, a different attitude to all this flying might develop.
Of course, when these small cute little buzzers are swarming high up above a park or somewhere in the urban landscape, everything is just merry and dandy, but suppose sometime in the not so distant future, you are lying in your garden reading your favourite crime pulp, and the soundstage starts to resemble that of a fly infested dungheap, and everytime you lower your book, a drone is responding with a swoop to the side, as if the pilot suddenly became aware that he was being watched. -By you!
Get the picture?
In some areas of the world, a new hobby might develop: Blasting the buggers out off the sky with a round of snakeshot but not all countries allow that, so this leads to the essential question:
What would be a probable timeframe, within which we will witness a Crowdfunding campain aimed at developing a reliable Stinger Missile Miniature, aimed at protecting the individuals right to privacy from being spyed upon by these little, I admit it, cool cool toys.

Cheers, Finn Hammer, Your old Grumpy

Could be done by EM shielding the silicon etc, and chasing the others with an EMP generator on board, and 'downing' them with an EM pulse. Would be virtually undetectable, too.

I'd go for a more 'fun' solution, a few quick examples;

Slingshot with weighted nylon netting for ammo to bring the thing down for dissection.

Anti-bird netting covering a 'no-drone' area.

Aimable HERF gun(s)

Mini barage balloons - think helium balloons ground anchored by fishing line, although hydrogen filled balloons might be more fun.

Asides from hydrogen filled balloons, I think they're all not illegal everywhere.

even as a foriegn national, you just put yourself at the top of that NSA bloodsucker in Utah.

that being siad, i think missiles or manueverable sounding rockets, will be in the hands of civilians, not just due to kickstarter efforts, but 3d printing, the continuing electronics revolution, and increasing resentment here in the US with the government trying to control everything. but probly not for shooting down and cuasing terror events, probly just for science and fun.

remember there is the laser based mosquito killer demo'ed on TED. you could detect-and-track (like phased array radar) using a low power laser, then guide a plastic pellet shooter, or nylon net dragging micro-drone up to capture and ruin the offending un-wanted drones. it could be totally automatic, spare the birds, kill the machines!

i preditced this long before you made this thread. the best way to suppress snipers is with other counter-snipers, enemy subs? you need an attack sub. have a fighter or bomber problem? youll need your own then. Same true here, auto-drone supression for privacy is on the horizon im sure.

though im still confident privacy was dead along time ago... see first sentence. If i am dissappeared youll all know why... see first sentence.

As for your last question, when? why not now? just a question of money. But KickStarter doesnt allow "weapons developement".

im a bit tipsy at the moment...need to sober up, , , ; apologize for spelings
