Hey 4hv.org


Im looking into making an electric scooter and i may be given a 320V servo motor with a control board.....

Is there any way to sort out a 320V battery or somthing similar to get me 320V @ 15Apk?

27 car batteries in series?
Nearly 5Kw at that voltage is an unquestionably lethal power supply, no matter how you do it.
(I realise you may well know that, but the next person to read this thread might not.)

a small size-seriesed 320 volt battery of any chemistry will have low capacity and high ESR. So youll need a step-up SMPS or a lower voltage motor... thats just to get it working, youll still need to make sure the other details dont get in the way.

may we see this motor?

There are other questions;
how do I charge the battery?
How do I afford this battery?
(a 320 V servo motor is probably 320 Vac ... over 500 Vdc Bus voltage, or is it a d.c. servo motor?)

. the only three technologies that come to mind are;
- Lithium cells
- Silver-zinc cells
- fuel cells
and based on my (poor) knowledge of the state of the art, only Lithium cells seem do-able.
Irrespective of the technology used, kW.h storage and re-charging are the main hurdles,
the motor and inverter/drive decisions come later.

the 320V is the Bus voltage that will be inputted into the Driver.
I suppose really that the Inverter would be the best choice to get up to the 320V. Ideally, this will all be used in an electric scooter or scateboard.

As for seeing the motor, i don't know when i get it and i don't know what one. but 320v and around 15Apk seems like the most likely motor for it to be.

Li-Po batteries do seem the best choice, likely 2x 5000mAh at the highest voltage i can get them. or any combination to get the best price per amount of energy stored. i can get up to 3kW ferrite transformers wound ( this will be more then enough as its likely around 15Apk, but i would imagine it being around 8A max in normal usage, judging by the general servo motors they have at the company that i would likely end up with)
