That's surprising!

I knew Ikea was popular, but I never knew it was that popular. I remember a few months ago when a new store opened in the UK, it had to close again 5 minutes after its first opening - because people were at risk of being crushed to death in the crowds.

I buy cheap alkaline AA cells from there, last time it took me 20 minutes to walk around the shop to the tills cheesey

Ikea is crazy. I don't understand how it is set up, but I guess that Ikea is technically owned by a charity. The charity is for the advancement of interior design, and that Kamprad controls the board that controls Ikea. This means that Ikea doesn't have to pay as much as a regular corporation would in taxes. Kamprad gets some fees because he owns the name Ikea. I don't know if I have it exactly correct, but the Economist has a good write up about it.
