Hello All,
I recently came upon six MG50H2YS1 bricks free for the using. The person letting me know I could use them if I want thought they were SCR bricks and so I dawdled before looking up the part number. Now I see that these are 500V 100A IGBT half-bridges. I know they are an old part and don't compare to the normal sort of bricks I see discussed around here, but right now they seem promising to me for a smaller device.
Some pertinent specs for the DRSSTC gurus: 5V saturation voltage; sum of maximum rise, turn-on, fall, turn-off, and reverse recovery time is 5µs, max power dissipation 300W.
So, are these some junk-box gold, or just ordinary pyrite?

Unfortunately they look like very early IGBTs with truly awful specifications, so my vote is for pyrite.
Cheap TO-247 IGBTs will be better in basically every respect other than ease of mounting, e.g. FGH40N60SMD for $3-4 or FGH60N60SMD for $6-7 (each IGBT, in 10x quantity).
