"500 light years" is alittle bit far, but if we start from the nearest stars and setup refueling stations every 0.25light years and spread them about, with automatic drones refueling them, over the centenary we could work our way there, and tearforming planets along the way, that might not be perfect maybe like Mars, descendents might arrive there one day.

Might be within range of an artificial wormhole generated using a modified version of the Alcubierre drive, aka a "Jump Gate". Essentially two of these are built at each end and by synchronising the energy pulses the two ends connect for brief times allowing transit for a shielded vessel equipped with the required coils to keep the gravitational field in the passenger area to survivable levels (ie <15g).

Well, one intriguing idea I did find is that of using superheavy "doubly magic" ie closed neutron and proton shells as a source of high temperature superconductivity. Roentgenium if stable enough and combined with say aluminium or bismuth could superconduct at over 180K, Marinovium (proposed name for Element 122) possibly higher. As this would be an atomic level ie Type 1 material the Jc would be in the million amp/cm2 range allowing for fields of 80-160T with a suitably wound shim magnet.

use nuclear weapons quickly, their algae my evolve, and become "problematic." add Hafnium-178 and Pansium-311 isotopes to the warhead to prevent the "super-man possibility" we dont want them better off than they are now...
