Hi all.

I recall reading a while back that heptane immersed pyrolytic graphite might exhibit a substantial resistance drop and possibly superconduct at near ambient temperatures..

Actually tried this the other day and noticed a fascinating effect not with heptane (from a cheap superglue accelerant pen) but with the more common solvent Liquid Poly, available from many model aircraft supply places.

The setup used was a simple DMM set on Ohms range, the PG sliver sitting in a plastic lid and tried the following solvents, heptane (no effect) acetone (no effect), naptha (no effect) , mixture of acetone and naptha (no effect) and toluene based liquid poly.

The last experiment did yield a resistance drop, of about 20% from 50-60 ohms down to about 40 ohms whereas measuring the same points with other solvents afterwards yielded no measurable change.

It got me thinking that perhaps some contamination from the EL phosphor might have been responsible for the effect so perhaps it would be worth trying adding a small amount of strontium carbonate, barium titanate and/or sulphur to the other solvents such as acetone as well as toluene and other common solvents present in the Liquid Poly to see if this does anything.

If the dielectric portion of the EL phosphor is the critical factor then SrTiO3 dispersed in toluene or xylene should cause a much stronger effect.

Can someone test this please?

That stuff from the model shops isn't just butanone.

It contains 'other stuff' so that it will 'glue' other plastics, as well as thickeners.

I assume you measured it's resistance first?

Yeah, measured open circuit.
It does seem pretty vicious stuff that melts many plastics, would be interesting to see which component is causing the effect.
