I just wanted to start a thread to say goodbye to our furry friends, to help remember their short time here.

I was faced with the tough decision to euthanize my cat Tiger. He was a fighter and an arrogant bastard, I will miss him very much.

Farewell Tiger. 1996-2014

Awwwhhh how come?

Our cat had to have its tail amputated after the spine got broken close to the base, she is fine now thankfully... Strangely our last cat, about the same age got the same break, that cat had to get put down after she got brain damage or somthing from the anithstetic, nobody knows why she had a sudden bad reaction to it 1 day after the operation, she was doing fine up until then...

He was going downhill since the end of last year, and about a week ago developed an abcess tooth, we weren't sure quite what it was, but on top of that he was having kidney trouble, and he was in really bad shape overall.

He's never been one to take medication, or hand feeding. He probably would not have survived the anestetic for the tooth surgery, and after that we would have to have a cone on him for several weeks to hand feed and medicate.

The doctor also found issues with his blood clotting too quickly during the IV, which is a sign of hypothyroidism, so after the surgery, he would have to be given daily thyroid medication, and I just didn't see that happening.

It was over $200 just to put him down, surgery would probably have run over $2000.

I did the best I could do for him, and I think it was humane, I think he would have suffered more the other way.

I feel your pain. I've had to make the same decision and its never easy. Our vet does house calls so my cats have been able to spend their last moments at home with the family.
I've buried seven cats over the years - ranging in age from a few weeks to 14 years.
Tiger did well getting to 18.

My condolences for losing Tiger.
Let's hope he's now a happy cat in a better place.

D'awwwww poor kitty :c I have a huge soft spot for kitties. I remember when I half-adopted a stray cat. He was owned by several people, and didn't like me much, but I loved him all the same. After a year of owning him, he ran away (I was in India at the time with family). I told my dad (over Skype) that we were going to the pet store the day after I land and buying a cat (I was devastated). Now I have my lovely two brother kitties, Papu and Mitu. They're far more affectionate than the original Papu, and I've had these cats for four and half years and counting (they're nearly five years old). I love them so much! I sleep with Mitu. He loves snuggling up next to me, with his flank against my face XD I dunno what I'd do without them. I feel yah man, with Tiger. I love cats so much *_*

It's a long time now since my canine pal Mr H went on his way into the Great Beyond, but I often think of him, and remember the good times we had together, and wish he was still here. He has left a dog-shaped hole in my life, so I guess I will go down to the dog rescue shelter some time this year, and see which dog would like to come home with me.
