Before December 2013, I'd placed well over a hundred orders throughout my life, and I had NEVER had one not ship same-day if before the 8pm cutoff time.

Now, come December 2013 and every single order I've placed has not shipped the same day, even if placed many hours before cutoff. In one case it even took two business days before it even shipped!

Did the management change? New owners? Just curious what could make such a great company begin miserably failing at what they specialize in.

I never had that problem.
I order from digikey on a daily basis, and in some cases two orders per day.

They always ship within an hour if I place an order, even right up against their order time.

Have you tried contacting them directly regarding this?

How are paying for these items? If you are shipping to a school address which is different than your credit card billing address, that could potentially add delay.

But, I've never had a problem with them not shipping same day, even if I order right up against the cut-off time.

Apparently some FPGAs are on the "Nyet List" as I call it, so are some high end microcontrollers.
Also on the list are some types of specialised laser crystals such as Nd:YAG, night vision modules over Gen 1+ and certain types of vacuum tubes.

A lot of the time a simple phone call will get the order released, sometimes you must explain what you need the part(s) for and whether the device is]intended for mass production at a later date or just a one off prototype.

Kind of pointless, doesn't take an amazing actor to just say somthing like that
