Link2

Seems that my post on USENET circa 1998 was so far ahead of its time it has taken the best part of two decades to catch up.

Ironically at the time I mentioned it to three people and they all laughed and commented on my lack of knowledge.
Well who's laughing now...

Also it seems that my ideas about combining dielectrics and superconductors may have been about two months ahead, have email proof that I sent the idea well before its publication.

"BTW I don't know if anyone has ever tried using tantalum in *any*
superconductor to date, but you never know .. the YBaCuO based one was
discovered by accident so someone in some lab somewhere might be
working on it .. ?" circa Jan 2000

Hi Conundrum
Looking up a list of superconductors found this Link2 Have you got any that you are working on at the moment?

I bet money on KI being a high temperature super conductor., If only you could make KI not KI2

As it happens, yes.
My current material is based on Y123 "Ultra YBCO" (Thanks J.Eck!) and strontium titanate layered, the idea being that pulsing it with HV should yield bursts of superconductivity at >240K.
This is being worked on in the States, I even emailed the team who found the strontium titanate photosensitivity to see if they'd tried my idea but no response.

Another interesting approach is replacing thallium in the 28.5C material with manganese, even though the atomic radius is different the properties are very similar otherwise.
My thought is that HTSC may be more to do with structure and resonances than chemical composition, essentially it forms a vortex of spinning electrons which "condense out" as Cooper pairs.

EDIT: I was trying to grow KCl crystals for a project, and noticed they glow red under MW bombardment.
Possibly interesting as iodised table salt is quite common.

Do you think its possible to make KIGa2Al2,you would probable have to build it up, I don't think you could reduce it from a more complex substance, it would be one of the most strongest you could probable find ,more so than FeF3.
it should have less resistance than cu or silver, but not sure on the superconductive part.

Maybe. I have some gallium aluminium "slag", if I could convert this into acetate (vinegar?) then it might be possible to make this compound.
Where did you obtain this from or is it your own idea, because it sounds intriguing.

EDIT: Stella (PM) is our resident Chemistry genius, ask her?
Also she has X-ray analysis equipment.

I was working on a chemical program awhile ago, it just outputted that as 0.9996 with iron around 0.9957 copper around 0.9167, the energy required to break or make the bond.

Chemistry isn't my think, if anyone wants to run with it, its open.

Will let you know if this does anything interesting.

Re. HTSCs, its possible that layers of them could make an effective radiation shield due to them excluding magnetic fields.
So this has relevance to nuclear safety as well, if a material could be found that worked at room temperature AND was able to tolerate a high radiation flux then this would make cleaning up nuclear accidents a lot easier.

See Link2, however in this case a dual approach ie large SC magnet on either side of the craft AND a SC shield panel around the crew quarters would probably work better together than either on their own.
