How many UD's have you killed? What do you think went wrong, and what do you do differently now?

Any other carnage to share?

Here's my boneyard:

I think arc current found it's way through building mains and back to the driver to kill the first two, the third had trouble from the start.

I run a counterpoise ground now, and pay more careful attention to where the coil is set up.

I would include a pile of NST's I've killed, but I didn't feel like lugging them around for a picture.

What are your stories?

I have only killed MOSFET driver ICs, working with SSTC, never totalled a complete board, at most burn some component, replace and do sparks again.

I used to have a matchbox with exploded silicon, but not more than that. Maybe I nurse my stuff too much ;)

Ive killed gate drive ICs , Many mosfets , few IGBTs mostly due to SSTC building .

Many dead gate drivers, but that was before I knew exactly what I was doing, and most of them failed while the bridge was not connected/unpowered, I was experimenting a lot with circuits tongue
A disconnected input terminal is often enough to destroy a gate drive IC. It can start oscillating at tens of MHz and fry itself by switching losses.

Tank circuit wiring melted its insulation and tank capacitor got shorted directly to the output of the bridge cheesey

Nice pop, sparks and fire.. RIP 150Amp semikron

Less power and heavier wiring fixed this problem.

Here's what happens when the cooling blower fails and nobody notices. The blower pressure safety switch was miswired.

Was pushing 1000HP at the time. People on the other end of the building thought it was a gun shot.

Wow. I think you win this thread.

I haven't blown up a single driver circuit. It's probably because I haven't finished a tesla coil yet :P
