I have a chance to buy a Tektronix 2246 Oscilloscope, it's a 4 channel 100MHz scope.

The person selling it wants 300 dollars for it (USD) which seems reasonable with my little research.

It appears to be in great cosmetic condition, and the screen shot he took shows clean sharp traces.

I'm going to give him a call tomorrow morning unless somebody thinks I can do better?

Sounds good, but ideally check to see for any trace jitter.
This indicates bad capacitors which is a big job to fix.

Also check to see if any of the modules are included as these are worth more than the 'scope in some cases.

No modules, only comes with 2 probes and digital copies of the manuals.

I was looking on eBay and found this same scope for a bit cheaper, but with this I can test it before I buy it. With eBay if it doesn't work I could return it, but would lose like 60 bucks in shipping.

I will give this guy a call tomorrow and set up a time to meet. I might even be able to get it for a bit cheaper.

With the 2430's and digital scopes of this era, you want to see the self test post, and see if there are any failures posted, CCD FAIL is very common, as well as NVRAM FAIL. You want a scope with all PASS' on the self test.

Well the scope was gone before I even had a chance, so I browsed eBay and found this one for 332 dollars shipped.

He posted a pic of the self test results, it seems to be in almost perfect condition.

I also bought a set of 4 cheap probes so I can fiddle around till i can afford some real ones.

So my scope arrived today, I paid $332 for the scope and shipping. Its a 4 channel scope, with a 350MHz bandwidth.

A picture of the front, and then a few pics of as far as i willing to dive inside of it.
