Link2 Could this be used in something HV Related While stripping an old View sonic monitor I found it Could be the most odd thing I have come a crossed.

Yes, it's usefull, but you may need to do your own transformer or use the circuit on the original board.

It's like UC3842 e.t.c. without a lot of the support components, as far as I can see.

Link2 also have lots of similar controllers. (and others I don't recall now or know about)

I actually used it on a fly back last night it worked with no external parts I simply touched the FB pin with my finger and it started oscillating it produced some nice arcs but that was short lived it burned up probably due to no current feed back.

Well.. I would guess it did. b.t.w. powering a LOPT from mains is rather improper for flyback operation, as in the switching element needs to hold off rather high voltage (more than 1000V) (the 120V mains will be at advantage over 230V mains)

As far as I can see, many here doesn't use the FB pin for feedback and run converters all in open-loop.
