Border patrols, first responders and bungee jumpers looking for a new thrill are all potential users of what developer Martin Aircraft says will be the first practical Jetpack when deliveries begin in 2014. The military is also interested, for use on manned or unmanned missions ranging from radio relay to personnel insertion and cargo resupply.

it does appear more credible than any previous machine i can think of. but this has been a fantasy of many since the 40's and its always been a whacky implementation, even the Pawnee "air-jeep" was sort of practical but still sketchy...

i presume it would be scary if you were a junior terrorist or cartel member, seeing a bin laden or Pablo escobar captured and taken away in the night by 8 or 10 special force guys using these devices!
Or emergency embassy evac... (Benghazi or Tehran...)

Well, if they're subject to the same regulations as microlights, you won't be able to fly over densely populated areas, so you can forget 'hopping' from the roof of one 'city block' to another.
