Mouser, Digikey and "local" vendors. And if you cannot find a part anywhere because its end of life/obsolete, then ebay is the absolute last resort as your 99% likely to get fake counterfeit components there.

I buy most parts on ebay, but where that fails, and I don't mind paying a bit more, I go to Farnell online, who are perfectly happy to sell to private individuals.

I have had good service locally and internationally from these folks over the years.
For prime stuff: Mouser, DigiKey, Allied, EEM. For quick emergencies and common ICs and stuff: Active Electronics, Gervais Electronics, both are in town and also carry NTE substitution components. Bargains and surplus: Electronics Goldmine. Old, obsolete, hard to find non critical parts: Ebay. I have found hard to find chip resellers to be either useless for one or two units or outrageously expensive. I know many ebay parts may or might be counterfeits or pulled but I have not had a problem yet in many years. Although many ask a company name none has ever refused my business yet. Just watch for minimum orders and shipping costs however. Some also accept PayPal in addition to credit cards.

Octopart is good too in case you don't search 'in stock' from any of the mentioned Digikey, Mouser, Avnet, ect. A search on Octopart can show which distributor has stock of a component.
